On a cloudy day it has its special charm…and looks very mysterious.

The wolves and the ravens

In reality these are not wolves and ravens. These are 2 Alpine Choughs (Pyrrhocorax graculus in Latin) and several sledge dogs - I am not sure about their breed. Alpine Choughs are not afraid of people and ask for food. They live in high altitude between 1,260–2,880 metres. They are said to set up permanent families for their live-time. The sledge dogs live near the Lodge. When they get bored, they "sing", looking very indifferent at the same time. And this is the song about the Wolves and the Ravens

When I know nothing about something, it works best for me when someone who knows and whom I can trust tells me what to do. Johannes and Charli from Janu Sport www.sport2000rent.at/dachsteinsport helped me to handle the challenge of making this difficult decision – which skis to get, as my old ones proved to be not subject to ski service after more than 10 years of utilization. The new ones work perfect on various snow conditions so I am happy about my choice...

Skiing on the Krippenstein with Christian

Every time I decide to ski with a guide on the Krippenstein, I want to do it in the best possible weather. This season for a week of waiting I was rewarded with 2 days of skiing in a thick fog … Christian from Outdoor Leadership http://www.outdoor-leadership.com/ who was my guide this year thought he lost me on some occasions, and I lost him as well, or sometimes I could see his bright red-blue silhouette in front, without being able to distinguish where the mountain ends and the sky starts. It was a nice chance to investigate snow conditions which were new to me, and to get rid of some fears in day to day life. After all, only a few things can be more scary than falling into nowhere.

The next day after the 2 foggy days was bright and the snow was shining-actually, it was covered by ice. Very beautiful.
It is really important to ski off-piste with a guide who knows the area on the Krippenstein. And even that is not a 100% safety guarantee. People fall into deep holes which are so numerous on the Krippenstein every year.
