Dachstein West and the village of Gosau

Gosau am Dachstein is a beautiful village on the way to Lake Gosau and the western part of the Dachstein  massive with its Gosauer Gletcher. In the winter season Dachstein West is a family friendly snow-sure ski resourt with about 150 km of pistes. Despite of the relatively low altitude, e.g. 1620 m on the Toerleck, there is alway enough snow even at the New Year time and it is never overcrowded, as it is not an international resort, it is mostly visited by the Austrian people. For the same reason there are very few people who do not ski well and cannot control themselves on the slopes, so skiing is safe here from this point of view. There is no big danger of avalanches are you ski from the top of the mountains.
In the summer time Dachstein West offers a lot of family friendly hiking paths of various lengths. Climbing is also a possibility and there is a Klettersteig on the Donnerkogel.
Adalbert Stifter was  fascinated by the Dachstein, but at some point of time he gave up his efforts to paint it so beautiful as it is...
