Dr. Friedrich Simony, "Professor Dachstein"

Dr. Friedrich Simony (1813-1896)

"My heart was heavy as I left the Salzkammergut, where every crag of the cliff, every beautiful tree, every raging stream, lakes, valleys, mountains and many warm eyes and soft hearts had become my dear friends."
Friedrich Simony

Dr. Friedrich Simony dedicated his life to the Dachstein exploration.
Friedrich Simony began his academic career at the Dachstein in the second half of the 19th century. Over a period of more than 50 years he observed the change of the glacier. This is documented by a number of scientific papers on these measurements, but above all by countless photos and graphics from the time of the last glacial maximum level (1850-1880).
He was called "professor Dachstein".
